A no-frills hole-in-the-wall on Kapahulu just over the Ala Wai from Waikiki, Ono Seafood is the locals' answer to where to find the freshest, cheapest, most honest poke in town. There is no dining room to speak of, just a counter where you order ahi or tako poke by the bowl or by the pound, take it to-go, and eat it on a park bench. The shoyu ahi is the must-order: thick chunks of bright red tuna tossed simply with shoyu, sesame oil, green onion, and Hawaiian salt. Lines start at opening (9 a.m. Tue–Sat) and the shop frequently sells out by mid-afternoon. Cash and card accepted, closed Sundays and Mondays, and a fixture on every Oahu poke best-of list for good reason.
"Best poke on the island, hands down. Fresh ahi, generous portions, and the spicy ahi is incredible. Worth every minute of the line."
