TheBus is Honolulu's island-wide public bus network, operated by Oahu Transit Services with about 100 routes reaching every corner of O'ahu, from Waikiki to the North Shore. Fares are $3 one-way with a 2.5-hour free transfer, or $7.50 for a day pass, paid in cash (exact change only) or by tapping the rechargeable HOLO card available at 7-Eleven, Foodland, and ABC Stores for $2. Routes 2, 8, 13, 19, 20, and 42 all serve Waikiki and connect to Ala Moana Center, downtown, Pearl Harbor, and the airport. Buses run roughly 5 a.m. to midnight and accept bicycles on front racks. It is by far the cheapest way to get around, though slower than rideshare and standing-room-only on peak commutes; check the DaBus2 app for real-time arrivals.
"We used TheBus for two weeks straight, $7.50 day passes and the HOLO card. Routes 8 and 23 hit everything we needed from Waikiki, and it was a fraction of the Uber cost."
